Lean Manufacturing Focus Continues at Plastics One |
Lean Cellular Manufacturing is a must for any business that is concerned about their future and the
ability to continue to provide a quality product at a competitive price. It is the best "bang for the buck"
investment in any organization and should be the first opportunity to investigate in the quest for
Continuous Improvement.
Plastics One, Inc has been working with the Lean approach for over six years and has become totally committed to
its principles as more and more of our product is placed in Cells. The road is sometimes a bit bumpy and it
doesn't always work the first time, but the great thing about Lean is its flexibility. It doesn't always have
to be implemented in its entirety as long as the principles that apply are implemented at every opportunity.
Just because an entire product line doesn't easily lend itself to the perfect Lean Cell Model is not an excuse
to discount the Cellular approach. Work your way through and apply lean on parts of the process where it first
makes the most sense using Value Stream Mapping, Time Studies and Kaizen. Make sure these areas are working
efficiently and then take a second and third look. Continue to work on those areas where you thought
Lean was not going to work. You will be surprised at the results and ultimately its payoff.
