Research And Development

Plastics One's R&D Team is committed to one task - bringing the highest quality new products into production on time! We will work directly with your engineers to assist you with all phases of product development; from basic design concepts, to material selection, all the way through to product testing. Our staff includes seasoned technicians who will build samples and prototypes of your proposed cable assembly to allow you to evaluate in your own facility and application. You may find that Plastics One already manufactures a suitable connector for your requirements, since only a fraction of our overall product line is currently depicted on our website. One of the keys to our 60 years of success is that our R&D teams work closely with our sales engineers. Please contact sales for more information concerning your custom cable assembly.

  • Low-cost prototype tooling helps prove concepts without committing to higher cost production tooling. This allows the design to be refined.
Our R&D department uses 3-D design software featuring Solid Works and AutoDesk Inventor. We can design both prototype and production tooling while simultaneously our design engineering group can focus on detailed product and tooling design. Most of our design effort is on fixtures for product assembly. To assist tooling efforts, our in-house Model Shop uses three CNC milling machines for prototype parts, molds and fixtures.

  • Extensive testing is available, including in-house flex life, environmental exposure, autoclave, insertion/extraction force and life cycle testing. ANSI/AAMI standard EC53-1995 is our primary test standard for medical leadwires, however we will design and test to your specific needs.
Our R&D team also works with our Quality Assurance department to develop production test procedures. Again, our goal is to produce a product that meets your needs! To support this effort new equipment is often sought and evaluated.

  • R&D also works closely with our Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance department to insure newly developed products transition smoothly into production.
Our assembly and molding technicians provide extensive training to the production operators, and are always available to assist production when necessary.
