DIN connectors have been an industry standard for years as they provide multiple contacts in a tight footprint. Since they are polarized and keyed to prevent mismatching, field use is almost foolproof. Plastics One offers shielded as well as full plastic versions. As more and more of the equipment used in the computer and medical markets decreased in size, miniature Dins, or mini-dins, were developed based on the same principles, just reduced pin and housing dimensions. DIN connectors are available in four through eight positions; Mini Dins are in three up to nine positions. These can be with or without all contacts loaded.
